What is Hydro
Excavation?

Hydro excavation is a non-destructive excavation method that uses pressurized water and a powerful vacuum system to safely remove soil in sensitive or congested areas. Pressurized water breaks up the soil, creating a slurry that is immediately vacuumed into the hydrovac truck's debris tank. This precise process minimizes ground disturbance while protecting surrounding infrastructure.

 

The collected slurry is then transported to a licensed soil recycling facility, where the soil is separated from the water and responsibly recycled or repurposed.

 

Hydro excavation became widely adopted in Canada, where heated water systems made it possible to safely excavate frozen ground during harsh winters. Today, it is a trusted solution across the utility, municipal, construction, telecommunications, and energy industries for its precision, safety, and efficiency.

The statistics reinforce this advantage. In 2016, hydro excavation accounted for just 0.2% of excavation-related accidents, compared to 40% of accidents involving backhoes and trenchers. In 2017, more than 400,000 excavation accidents were reported across North America. These figures highlight the importance of choosing safer excavation methods and demonstrate why hydro excavation has become the preferred solution for projects involving underground utilities and other sensitive environments.
